Sussex Community Foundation is looking for trustees and committee members who want to make a real difference to people and communities in Sussex. We are one of 46 community foundations in the UK and raise funds for and make grants to local grass roots charities and community projects across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove. Full details of our work are here.
We are looking for people with compassion and energy to help us grow and target our funds.
- to ensure that we help local people and communities achieve their aims
- to make a real difference to the lives of people in Sussex by tackling deprivation and disadvantage
- to promote new and innovative ways of developing sustainable community involvement
- to help our team evaluate and assess the impact of our grant giving
- ensure the right blend of support and challenge to the Chief Executive and the senior management team.
We want the Foundation to benefit from the different lived experiences of people across the whole of Sussex and particularly want to recruit, people from different communities. We hope that this might include Black, Asian and minority ethnic and LGBTQ communities, young people and those of working age, refugees and people who may have personal experience of challenges e.g. discrimination, disability, mental health issues, economic disadvantage. We aim to keep a balance between male and female trustees so we are particularly looking to recruit women, at this stage.
Specific skills required
We would like to be joined by up to four individuals who have a good working knowledge of the voluntary sector in Sussex and a combination of sound and independent judgement, strategic vision and the ability to think creatively, who can help us ensure that we maintain and improve the quality of our grant-making. We are looking for two people to join us as trustees and a further two to strengthen our grant making committees.
Much of the income we use for our grant giving is raised from endowment funds (now over £20 million). For this reason, we also have a need for an additional trustee who has a working knowledge and experience of investment management and finance.
