The aim of the Purple Fund is to reduce social isolation among older people in Arun District.
One group funded recently is Bognor Community Action Network (Bognor CAN). The group applied for funding to commission a local acrylic artist, who has the necessary skills to work with vulnerable elderly people to teach through a weekly Acrylic Art Workshop, leading to an art exhibition of their work in the summer of 2014. The weekly classes are two hours long for 37 weeks and engage older people who do not access mainstream service provision. The art exhibition will demonstrate what participants have achieved. “The art workshops provide new opportunities for older people who have not previously had the chance to learn to paint, due to confidence, social isolation, accessibility and costs beyond their affordability, from the disadvantaged communities of Bognor Regis,” says Carol Fullick of Bognor CAN. One of the exhibits that will be on display at the exhibition is pictured above.
