February is LGBT+ History Month and to highlight it, we want to celebrate the amazing work of the LGBTQ Switchboard which supporting LGBTQ people in the city and beyond for over 45 years. In 2019, along with the Rainbow Fund, we supported their Grief Encounters initiative. Grief Encounters is a closed support group which runs for six weeks, run by an LGBTQ facilitator with experience in bereavement counselling and supported by an LGBTQ volunteer counsellor. The group provides a confidential and safe place for participants to explore their grief and discuss their experiences, without judgement and free of stigma. As well as sharing their experiences, participants support others through empathetic listening and sensitive questioning, guided and supported by the facilitators. This great little film shows exactly what the support means to some of the people who have benefited. For more information, email Jackie, Switchboard’s Grief Encounters Development Worker.
