Investing for Good

The team at Sussex Community Foundation attended a joint seminar with Knill James accountants discussing ‘Investing for Good’.

James Bird, Tax Director in Knill James’ Private Client team, and Zelie Byrne, Corporate Tax Manager, shared key insights on tax planning for individuals and companies: from inheritance tax and corporation tax as well as important considerations on gifting to charities in different ways. Sussex Community Foundation fundholder Nick Munday shared his story from entrepreneur to philanthropist:

“After my retirement I have been enjoying various hobbies and interests, but I am conscious that the next phase in my life also needs to involve helping others. I had thought about starting our own family charitable foundation, but I was concerned about issues around governance, investment of funds and finding the right charities who would benefit. Fortunately, I was introduced by a friend to Sussex Community Foundation. They are great for local giving, they do all necessary regulatory work and invest our money where it is most needed. With the help of the Foundation we set up a family endowment fund in 2019, helping charities involved with children and young people, homelessness and dementia.”
