The Network of International Women for Brighton & Hove provides a safe space for women from diverse cultures and backgrounds to meet, share experience and knowledge and support one another. Women meet regularly in venues across the city, share food and information, exchange ideas and build friendships. This grant wil help them purchase IT equipment, together with training and support, in order to increase communication with isolated women and their families during the pandemic and beyond. The Network is keeping in touch with the nearly 400 member households through (translated) messaging (almost daily) on Facebook, WhatsApp and their website. Those without access to IT are contacted by telephone and some house-to-house calls. They will also purchase sewing machines to enable the women to participate in group craft and sewing projects, during this period of self isolation, increasing their feelings of staying connected and of health and wellbeing. They will be producing scrub bags for the NHS which are of value to the wider community.
